Stumptown is the story of Dex Parios, a military vet with PTSD, a problem with authority, and an amazing collection of jackets who is trying to become a private detective. Based on a graphic novel, the storytelling is part serial and part episodic, and I’ve been watching with dedication graphic novel Dex is bi! Well we finally got some gay content (and how!) in episode 6, “Dex, Drugs and Rock and Roll.” Season one was on pause last night for the Country Music Awards, but now you have a week to catch up on the first six episodes before it’s back on November 20th. Speaking of the CMAs, Brandi Carlisle’s band new band the Highwomen performed in an all-woman medley, alongside Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and a whole bunch of other super stars. Last week it was BIG news when we all discovered that Lucy Liu, femme top fantasy and incredible actress has been showing her work as a painter since 1993. The movie which premiered last month was released on DVD. It includes a documentary, Behind the Curtain: the Making of Steven Universe for all the superfans of a boy and his three magical alien moms. Our story begins with a ginger-haired English gyel, off to summer camp or foreign exchange or something, where she meets another shy girl. They become friends and then they become teenagers who fall in love on a beach. A cover of “Wonderwall” is playing, which is fitting because Oasis lyrics are basically nonsensical and we don’t *really* know if we are watching a commercial or a short Oscar contender.
The teenagers become women but wait, now the brown-haired one is marrying a man while the redheaded one looks on in agony. But in a passionate rainstorm, the brown-haired one leaves her husband, racing for the Chunnel, where in the light of morning she is reunited with her English childhood sweetheart. Then they somehow have a daughter who looks just like the ginger lady, even though she wasn’t the one married to a man. It seems like maybe we’re missing a lot of the backstory. Anyway, they show up to granny and grandpa’s in their hideous orange Renault Clio and it turns out it was a commercial after all. US Women’s Soccer has been fighting for equal pay against parent corporation US Soccer Federation. US Soccer has attempted to get the case dismissed on the grounds that some of the highest paid women’s team players were paid more than the men’s team players. A DC court judge ruled that was a bogus argument that would set precedent allowing employers to pay women half as much as male employees for the same work, if they worked more hours in the same year to make up the difference. USWNT player and World Cup champion Megan Rapinoe was quoted in the New York Times on U.S. Soccer’s argument, “Nice try. Kristen Stewart was on the Howard Stern Show being, like, embarrassingly in love with her girlfriend, writer Dylan Meyer. “I can’t FUCKING wait” to propose she said, camera zoomed in on her cute/cringey-ass Sapphic intensity. She then went on to tell the audience how she told Dylan she was in love with her after two weeks.
