Lez Dish It Out! AfterEllen’s Weekly Les/Bi Round-Up

Hello to my lady loving women, and TGIF, am I right? I hope you all had a fabulous week as we approach the end of the year chaos that is the holiday season. Today we have Australia says YES, Ellen Page speaks out, and another Tegan and Sara video among other news, so lez get started! Australia says YES! The Sydney Opera House even went full rainbow for this historic day.

After two months of mail-in voting, results were calculated and the people of Australia have delivered a verdict overwhelmingly in favor of legalizing same sex marriage. Wednesday’s results revealed 61% voted in support of marriage equality, and 38% voted against. Nearly 80% of the country’s population participated in the vote, making it an accurate representation of Australia and its citizens’ feelings toward the issue.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull provided some commentary following the announcement of the results, saying that it’s now up to Parliament to make the passage of marriage equality official before Christmas.

Needless to say, the LGBT community as a whole is pretty thrilled. Check out these tweets from Ellen and Portia, the latter of whom is a proud Aussie herself.

Cheers to equality in Australia, and to lots of New Years weddings!

The series’ fandom has already been endearingly coined as “Poptarts,” so obviously we’re going to have to find out what that’s all about. I already love it.

Barbelle is a Canadian web series that was funded through IndieGoGo. The description from the campaign reads as follows:

BARBELLE is female written, directed, and produced web series featuring a cast of queer characters. BARBELLE follows the story of a newly famous pop star duo whose meteoric rise to stardom has led to a blitzkrieg on their personal lives. Helping to fund this project is an investment in the future of a film industry that’s got equal parts rad women and awesome dudes.

PARK CITY, UT – JANUARY 23: Actor Ellen Page attends “Tallulah” Premiere during the 2016 Sundance Film Festival at Eccles Center Theatre on January 23, 2016 in Park City, Utah. (Photo by George Pimentel/Getty Images for Sundance Film Festival) Ellen Page, Gal Gadot, and Anna Paquin take a stance against Brett Ratner. Last week, our beloved Ellen Page took to her personal Facebook account to expose Brett Ratner and the vicious way he outed her on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand. You can find Ellen’s original Facebook post here.

Ratner has been under fire recently after accusations from several different women in Hollywood for his deplorable actions. Anna Paquin tweeted that she was there and heard this comment made to Page.

In light of this story, Gal Gadot spoke out that she would not be part of a Wonder Woman sequel that included Ratner’s participation.

Luckily, Page has an army of support behind her, including her lovely girlfriend.

Ellen DeGeneres is Going to Save Elephants with Kindness! Ellen started the hashtag #BeKindtoElephants as a response to Trump’s ban on imported elephant trophies. Get on twitter and retweet to help the cause! Could you love her even more than you already do?

Last, but certainly far from least, we have a brand new animated video from Tegan and Sara! The Quin sisters have always had a penchant for creating innovative music videos for release along with their music, and the animated theme they have going for The Con X: Covers is unique and fitting for the anniversary of the collection of devastating songs.

Last week we brought you the video for the Hayley Williams cover of “Nineteen,” and today we have Sara Bareilles’ heartbreakingly beautiful version of “Floorplan.”

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

That’s all we have for you today, my lesbian loves and bisexual babes. I leave you with this friendly reminder to feast your eyes on Sara Ramirez as Kat this Sunday. #Oneofus
