From the makers of Thats Not Us, soon to be released feature film The Ring Thing has just released a first look at this much anticipated lesbian romance.
Plot:
When Sarah accidentally proposes to her girlfriend in Provincetown, she finds herself at odds with her partner’s expectations of their future. The mix-up sends both women on different journeys of marital exploration. Sarah, a documentary filmmaker, begins interviewing same-sex couples in an attempt to overcome her fear of divorce. Kristen, who’s ready to tie the knot, sees a future version of her life with Sarah where career and passion threaten to pull the women apart.
AfterEllen spoke with Sarah Wharton, who is one half of the lesbian couple in the film as well as a co-producer on the project. While the lesbian couple from That’s Not Us (if you haven’t seen that yet, we reviewed it in this article (spoilers!) are the lead characters in this new project, it isn’t a sequel. says Wharton.
“The Ring Thing is an evolution of the same themes we explored in That’s Not Us – love, commitment, and communication. At the end of That’s Not Us, we’re left to imagine what might be in the future for these couples. When you’ve been together with your partner for a while, what comes next? Although The Ring Thing is not a true sequel, our main characters, Sarah (played by me) and Kristen (played by Nicole Pursell), are exploring the “next step” in their relationship – the decision to get married (or not.)This film also represents an evolution in artistic relationships. I felt so lucky to be working again with Nicole Pursell – it was such a gift to be able to build on the foundation we had built together during That’s Not Us. And of course, none of this would be possible without William Sullivan and Derek Dodge, the writers and Director/Cinematographer. That’s Not Us was a deeply personal film for them, as is The Ring Thing. I have profound admiration for their dedication to making films that feel so intimate and true – it was thrilling to be a part of their process again.”
