India’s first lesbian web series has new meaning in an era of legalized homosexuality

In 2016 we shared Indian web series “The Other Love Story,” which, as far as we know, was India’s first web series about lesbian love. It was made during the era where the country criminalized homosexuality – and that era ended yesterday. We’re now happy to say the series has taken on new historic meaning since India’s Supreme Court has now decriminalized gay and lesbian sex.

The New York Times reported this morning, “The court said that gay people were now entitled to all constitutional protections under Indian law and that any discrimination based on sexuality would be illegal.”

Good riddance, Colonial times!

Future Indian generations can watch this and say, “we don’t have to worry about being punished for who we love, but this series is a reminder of our past.”

The series consists of 12 total episodes. You can watch the trailer below.

The cinematography in the series is lovely, as are the poetic monologues the protagonist reads from her diary. Let us know what you think, and let’s celebrate India’s enormous victory today in a new era where lesbian and gay love are normal parts of life, not crimes. Congratulations, India!
