Morning Brew – Mon. May 27: “Blue is the Warmest Color” wins at Cannes, a look at the “Orphan Black” season finale

Good morning and Happy Memorial Day! I love a woman in uniform.

Blue is the Warmest Color took home the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend. The lesbian film won the Palme d’Or as voted on by a jury spearheaded by Steven Spielberg who said of the win:

The film is a great love story … We were absolutely spellbound by the two brilliant young actresses, and the way the director observed his young players. It was an obvious conclusion that without Léa and Adèle, the synergy could not have happened. If the casting had been even slightly different, if anything had been a little left of centre, it wouldn’t have worked. It was the perfect choice from a sensitive film-maker.”

Actress Lea Seydoux, Director Abdellatif Kechiche and Adele on stage to accept the award

Azealia Banks performed in a different kind of catsuit for the Life Ball in Vienna yesterday.

Fergie was also there and at the after-party, singing and pregnant.

A rapper named Ro Ransom sampled Aaliyah‘s “If Your Girl Only Knew” to make it into a new song called “Lesbian Girl.” It’s dumb.

Director Kyle Schnicker (Steam, Rose By Any Other Name) wants more bisexuals to make movies about their experiences.

Orphan Black‘s season finale looks pretty wild.

The New York Times wrote about Cynthia Nixon‘s political activism, and how she’s not voting for lesbian NYC mayoral candidate Christine Quinn . Instead, she’s helping to get LGBT voters excited about Bill de Blasio.

Here’s what Jodie Foster did this weekend.

Born This Way is a documentary following out gays and lesbians in Cameroon. You can catch it at film festivals this summer.

Congrats to Rehana Kausar and Sobia Kamar, the first Muslim couple to get married in the UK.
