Morning Brew – Tues. April 30: “Orange is the New Black” gets a premiere date, Ellen congratulates Jason Collins

Good morning! Can you even believe it’s the last day of April already?

On her show yesterday, Ellen DeGeneres congratulated NBA player Jason Collins on his coming out.

The mom of a lesbian doesn’t understand why her daughter wants to address her wedding invitations in a feminist fashion. YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND ME AND YOU NEVER WILL! *Stomps off, slams bedroom door.*

I’m so excited to tell you guys that Netflix has announced a premiere date for Orange is the New Black. The women’s-prison based series will roll out on Thursday, July 11. From the press release:

“With Orange is the New Black, Jenji Kohan has created a dramatic yet deeply funny world populated with unforgettable characters and no-holds-barred humor set against the backdrop of a women’s prison,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix. “Jenji is one of the most fearless voices in television and we are proud to share her uncompromising vision with Netflix members.”

Jenji Kohan was behind Weeds, so you know this is gonna be good.

Karina Iglesias made us proud with a Lenny Kravitz cover on The Voice last night. She’s in it to win it.

Anna Paquin’s film Free Ride has been picked up by Cargo Entertainment, which means we’ll hopefully see the film sometime in the next year. Anna stars and produces the film where she plays “a single mom who moves to Florida with her daughters to try and make a better life but gets caught up in the drug-trade business in the late 1970s.”

I was waiting to see some pics of Rachel Maddow from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and finally, here she is, behind the bar, as usual.

Anyone else feeling thirsty?
