Fae on Your Phone: Syfy Launches “Lost Girl” Mobile Game

Yesterday morning, Syfy dropped a press release announcing their first ever mobile game: an iOS/Andoid-based app built around every lesbian’s fae-vorite fantasy show, Lost Girl. Immediately, my buddy Ed Kennedy from The Backlot emailed to say, “Can we trust lesbians to not try naughty things with this?” To which I replied, “No. No, you cannot.” In fact, in the time it took me to construct that four-word reply, my mind had already jumped from Skyrim to Mass Effect 3, catapulting me from the F!Dovahkiin/Aela the Huntress’ wedding to FemShep/Liara’s bed.

Alas, Lost Girl: The Game isn’t quite that accommodating – but it is pretty cool. For starters, you get to build your own character in the Lost Girl universe. You can choose between five different mythical beings: Succubus, Lycan, Oracle, Telepath, or Daoine Sidhe. When I first started customizing my character – face style, skin color, hair color, etc. – I thought it was going to let me design every physical attribute without choosing a gender, which would have been revolutionary in the world of gaming, but then I realized some of the fae types are pre-set to be guys and some are pre-set to be gals.

Once inside the game, your avatar sets out on a scripted story, complete with puzzles and treasure hunts and brain-bending clues to piece together. The more activities you complete, the higher up you level, and the more gems you collect (which you can probably use to buy clothes and stuff, but I didn’t get that far into the game yet). As you get further into the story, you can either team up with your friends who are also using the Lost Girl: The Game app, or you can choose to partner with characters from the show.

The graphics are pretty great for a mobile game and the story/activities are involved enough to keep you coming back for more. Also, it boasts some Mortal Kombat-style shenanigans that’ll have you hollering “FINISH HIM!” before it’s all said and done.

Will you download Lost Girl: The Game, or did you have something else in mind entirely when I said you could partner with Bo Dennis?
