Morning Brew – Thurs. March 14: Vicci Martinez is crushing on Shakira, Tegan and Sara on smoking weed

Good morning!

A reality show is casting for lesbian couples that would like free therapy. It doesn’t say if this extends to after episodes have aired and you get to see what your partner said when they were interviewed alone.

Last night on It’s a Brad, Brad World, Brad Goreski’s assistant Hannah said she had a girl crush on their new client, model Petra Nemcova. Brad asked if she wore flannel to look more lesbian for Petra. Brad wrote on his Bravo blog, “Watching Hannah with Petra was priceless. I don’t think I have ever seen Hannah freak out so much for someone. Clearly she has good taste in clothes, men (her boyfriend is super cute), and women!”

Out playwright/musician Gina Young is in Crystal Bowersox’s new video for “Dead Weight.” She’s sitting to the left of her around the campfire.

Vicci Martinez talked with Latina about being gay and Latina in the public eye:

It’s not like I was eating myself alive knowing that I wasn’t living my truth before I came out. With the risk of losing my family’s support-they’re very religious-I wanted people to know me and like me for who I really was. I felt like I was doing a disservice [before]. I’m kind of a TMI person. It’s important for me to be honest with my music.

She also revealed she thinks new The Voice judge Shakira is her flavor:

I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time. I was kind of bummed. I wish she could’ve been on my season because I think she’s so great…and pretty hot. [Laughs]

Katy Perry’s assistant Tamra Natisin has been hanging out with Kristen Stewart and now we’d like them to fulfill our lesbian fantasies immediately. Thanks!

What I Love About Being Queer is a film, a Tumblr and now being turned into a book. Find out more about the release this month and Canadian book tour at creator Vivek Shraya’s site.

In the greatest thing I’ve read all week, Tegan and Sara are on the cover of Culture magazine, which is all about cannabis, aka weed. An excerpt from their interview:

The sisters acknowledged they smoked the plant when they were younger. “Sara and I have made no effort to hide the fact that when we were teenagers we smoked a lot of pot. We were ambitious teenagers-we wrote a lot of music; we did well in school; we volunteered on a youth teen-line; we had jobs; we took piano lessons. We were busy, but we also smoked a lot of pot.”

“[I]t’s definitely an ice-breaker [on stage] . . . We always joke that we’re kind of like Phish, but for our generation,” Tegan says. “We have a lot of diehard fans who follow us around, and I swear to God people smoke so much pot at our shows! And I don’t know why, but I guess it’s because we tell stories and we joke around, because I don’t feel like our music fits pot.”

Strangely enough, I just wrote something recently about listening to them while high when I was 20.

If you enjoyed the viral video fo Ash Beckham on why we shouldn’t use the word “gay” as an insult, you might be interested in this interview with her. If you have yet to watch the video, it’s at the site, too.
