Morning Brew – Mon. Feb. 25: Vogue’s new lesbian spread, Da Brat premieres “All Hoes Everything”

Good morning! I’m so out of whack from traveling across the country to Philadelphia and back over the weekend. But I promise I have a lot of great things to share with you from that experience, so look out for it later today.

One of the people I met at the LGBT Media conference is Faith Cheltenham, who wrote this rad piece about black bisexual women for The Huffington Post. I’ve co-opted Faith to write some pieces for AfterEllen, so stay tuned!

Out UFC fighter Liz Carmouche lost her big fight over the weekend, but she went down with a rainbow mouthpiece. She tweeted that she might be down, but not out.

Suze Orman penned an important piece for CNN about how much gay Americans end up paying in taxes. I love that the money lady is sharing her expertise on these sad facts. Here she is talking about it on air:

Out lesbian chef Kenyon Wilson is suing L.A. restaurant Cleo for homophobic and racist treatment. Sigh. How disappointing.

Sri Lanka clothing line ODEL is pushing some boundaries with their new lesbianish ad.

Mount Moriah’s new album comes out tomorrow but you can get a jump on hearing the new songs by listening to their Daytrotter section. We’ll have an interview with out frontwoman Heather McEntire tomorrow, too.

While I was reading the new Vogue on my flight this weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to see the very gay “To Rome With Love” spread featuring Joan Smalls and Raquel Zimmermann. I’m buying what they’re selling.

OTEP’s new music video will drop later today, but here’s a taste of what you can expect from “Apex Predator.”

Staceyann Chin spoke about homophobia in her native country Jamaica and how great it is that singer Diana King has come out.

It’s a weird place that I’m in because it used to be that people were more upset about me, but now there is Diana King, who is a huge Jamaican icon. She just came out as a lesbian, which is astounding on many levels. I don’t think that there is anybody with her star power who is Jamaican that has come out as gay. So now there are two of us. There is JFLAG that has grown so much, that has changed it. A lot of doors were closed for me because I was out and gay. Ten to 12 years ago, when we won the Tony Award, as a Jamaican citizen I didn’t get the kind of celebration that maybe other artists coming out of Jamaica would have had. I think it’s because I’m gay and because my mouth is potty mouth.

The whole interview is worth a read. Also, Diana King is playing the Dinah this year, which is pretty cool.

Before Karl Lagerfeld sent his lesbian brides down the aisle, he sketched his idea of “French and German relations” and, wow, I like how he thinks.

Da Brat performed a new song called “All Hoes Everything” at the SoSoDef Anniversary Party on Friday. It’s about all the “hoes” that are up in her house, cooking her breakfast and giving her lap dances. So….

A new Thai film called Fingering has upset a lot of people because of its explicit sexual nature. Also I’m sure it has to do with the lesbian stuff. Check out the trailer, which has English subtitles so you can figure out what’s going on.
