Morning Brew – Tues. Jan. 15: Ruta Gedmintas in “Do No Harm,” lesbianish Sundance film “to.get.her” available today

Good morning!

If you’re still sad about Lip Service and think a glimpse of Ruta Gedmintas will cheer you up, the entire pilot for her new show Do No Harm is available online. Fair warning: She doesn’t come on until about half way through. And she’s straight.

The ACLU gets shit done! A lesbian-themed book was taken off the library shelves in Utah and the organization was able to put it right back. Now everyone can share in the delight that is In Our Mothers’ House.

Gospel singer Gloria Muliro is the homophobe of the day. She went on Facebook to say she wanted to “expose” lesbians because, “It is very embarrassing, where have you ever seen a woman marrying another woman?” Why yes, I have. A few different times. Myself included!

Is Suze Orman dangerous? Author Helaine Olen claims she is, and that her advice is “not that great.” Suze will likely want to give her the smackdown.

Erin McKeown talked with American Songwriter about her new album Manifestra and how she co-wrote a song with Rachel Maddow via text.

Rachel and I were both traveling a bunch during the time we had to write our song. It was impossible to get on the phone, and for her, email access was super limited, so texting just made sense. I asked her for her impressions of the places she was visiting, words from those places that sounded good to her, and some favorite songs of hers. I took all of that, and her own personal travel schedule, and created the song – which tries to connect many of the issues facing us around the world into a singular question of, “Are we getting at the truth here?”

I need to know what Rachel Maddow’s favorite songs are immediately.

If you think you might be bisexual, try out this game. Results vary!

The 2011 Sundance film to.get.her is available today on iTunes and Amazon. There’s a major lesbian character in the all-female cast. Check out the trailer and then get to watching.

Did you know a lesbian created modern America? I had no idea! This is relevant to my interests.
