Morning Brew – Fri. Sept. 7: A lesbian on “All American Handyman,” Ellen talks babies

Good morning! Are you sad The Real L Word/DNC/VMAs are over? So much TV last night.

Thanks to reader Melissa, I now have to start watching this HGTV show called All American Handyman. Lesbian contestant Sonne Shields is in the running on Season 3, which airs Sunday nights.

Anton Goss, is a set designer for talk show hosts and he talked with The New York Times about creating a set for The Ellen Show:

Because the talk show is such a strange beast, I tend to find that the hosts say, “Here’s what I’m about, here’s my house, now take that and show me something.” With Ellen, her personal passion was having amazing plants on the set: desert succulents and sculptural pieces. She’s got amazing taste. It’s like Spanish style, and then you took a modern twist. Like a reinvented hacienda.

Out lesbian blogger Kailynn Barbour wants to be a Verizon Insider. Go vote for her!

Melissa Etheridge went on Joy Behar: Say Anything last night and discussed her split from Tammy Lynn Michaels.

She also talked with AP about her new album and if she’s finding herself to be more political then she used to be. A quote:

I have found that I’m just political just by being who I am. Being a gay person, being a person who chooses to partake in cannabis, being a breast cancer survivor – these are all very political situations that I didn’t choose, that are naturally who I am. So just by answering the questions, I become political. I’m considered an activist, but I do not spend any more time doing those things than anyone else. It’s just that I choose to stand and be truthful about it. I think it’s interesting that I live in a country where being truthful about who you are is courageous and political. What does that say about us?
