Morning Brew – Tues. June 12: Kate Moennig’s new show gets full season order, Brandi Carlile on “The Tonight Show”

Morning!

Great news, Kate Moennig fans! Showtime has ordered a full season of her new show Ray Donovan. The bad news: We have to wait to watch it until 2013.

If you live in Chicago and complain there are no single girls, might I suggest Nako Okubo? She’s one of Chicago magazine’s featured singles in their annual issue. And if you don’t live in Chicago, maybe you can strike up a long-distance internet relationship. Those things exist! (BTW, that picture does not do her justice! Head to her monthly party FKA at Big Chicks and you can see her in the flesh.)

Joan Jett joined punk band Against Me!, whose singer recently announced her transition to Laura Jane Grace, for a performance of “Androgynous” during a show at Terminal 5. This is exactly why people ask “What Would Joan Jett Do?”

Beth Ditto tells V magazine about how she got involved in the punk scene, despite it being overwhelmingly male in the ’90s.

You know, I was inspired by bands like Team Dresch. We came of age at a time before the Internet, so we were just creating in our own minds what we thought punk rock should look like….which, as you can imagine, looked just totally crazy. It was about having a big bouffant and wearing some raver pants. That was our version. Still, I know how hard it was for a lot of the bands that we really worshiped…not just to be queer, but even to be outspokenly feminist.

Someone who was part of that whole thing, Carrie Brownstein, says she and Fred Armisen are readying Portlandia Season 3 and it will definitely include some more feminist bookstore scenes – including going to the ladies’ homes. I wonder how many cats they have between the two of them.

Flavorwire has compiled a list of Gay Characters in Comics and its female-heavy. They also question if Renee Montoya should be considered trans or genderqueer because she sometimes changes into a male.

SheWired tipped us off to Ke$ha’s officiating a friend’s lesbian wedding in Malibu last week. Congrats gals!

Brandi Carlile performed her single “That Wasn’t Me” on The Tonight Show last night. Skip ahead to the last four minutes of the show to watch.
