In this New York Times profile of Carrie Brownstein, the Portlandia star talks about why her character Toni, the feminist bookstore worker who wanted to make out with Heather Graham last season is actually very punk rock:
Toni is totally feminist, but the way she expresses this is as a punk rocker with all the attendant self-righteousness. She’s MacKaye from Fugazi. She’s got that exact same snobbery as indie rock, the self-governing esoteric rules, the fierce defensiveness about her way of life, the wariness of latecomers.
And that’s why I love her and all feminist bookstore workers.

But here’s the bad news: In an interview with Gay Times, Freya Mavor (Mini) says there won’t be any development in their relationship as anything other than friends.
Everyone went crazy when they found out it wasn’t going to happen. I’d have liked it. I’d be really up for playing a lesbian character. I’m quite up for getting up with girls. I think it’s good.
But what will Franky be up to? We’ll just have to wait and see.
