Afternoon Delight: Meryl Streep on the cover of Newsweek, Queen Latifah talks “Joyful Noise” with Essence

Good afternoon everyone!

Happy birthday to legendary actress Mary Tyler Moore, Katherine Moennig (The L Word) and comedian Paula Poundstone. And happy belated birthday to the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace. Rapace turned 32 yesterday and I can’t believe I forgot. What’s wrong with me? (Don’t answer that.)

Meryl Streep is donning her Iron Lady attire on the cover of Newsweek.

Queen Latifah looks stunning (as herself) on the cover of January’s issue of Essence. The Queen discusses her upcoming film Joyful Noise, costarring Dolly Parton, and shot a behind the scenes video for Essence TV. All hail the Queen!

The lesbian film Pariah has not only garnered numerous awards but it is also changing lives. Inspired by the film, Salon and New America Media have decided to run “Pariah Personals,” a series of coming out stories by minority and immigrant LGBT youth.

Rock temptress Florence Welch resembled a Gustav Klimt painting at The Opening Of Harrods Winter Sale event in London.

On Wednesday, January 4 out comedian Carol Leifer will take the stage for Gays R Us show at the Hollywood Improv. (8162 Melrose Ave. Los Angeles, CA.)

The one and only Tony award winning Idina Menzel (Wicked, Glee) is taking her voice to the high seas to headline a gay cruise. (Dear Idina, Pack dramamine. Love, Bridget.)

Lesbian/Bi Tweet of the Day!

For all you Sia fans, the out artist took to Twitter yesterday to publicly break our hearts.

This will be my last column for the week so I wish you all a happy and safe New Year. Meet me back here in 2012!
