The Weekly Geek: A first look at “Prometheus”

Noomi Rapace. Charlize Theron. Alien‘s freaky atmosphere and incredible, moody art direction. Alien director (and mastermind) Ridley Scott. What I’m describing here is not my latest daydream; it’s the upcoming sci-fi film Prometheus, set to light the world on fire next June.

Remember back in 2009, when Ridley Scott had announced his plans to work on an Alien prequel? Well, that turned into Prometheus, and that’s probably for the best. According to GeekTyrant, instead of retreading the familiar classic, the new story “follows a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.” If that (plus the cast and director) doesn’t excite the pants off of you, you’re clearly reading the wrong column.

The cast really is dream-worthy. Not only are the leading ladies regulars on the AfterEllen Hot 100, but the increasingly impressive Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, the recent, spellbinding Shame) is also a headliner. Rapace seems to be on the brink of worldwide super stardom (her turn as Lisbeth Salander in the original Swedish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptations was her major breakout), and this could be the role that seals the deal.

And can we please talk about Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace in spacesuits? You may need to pinch me.

GeekTyrant recently posted high-res images from the production, and surely, a trailer can’t be far behind.

I know I’ll be gearing up by marathoning the Alien movies (and the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo flicks, for good measure) prior to June. Who’s with me?
