Afternoon Delight: Pink to star as sex addict in “Thanks For Sharing,” a new lesbian character in “Doonesbury”

Good afternoon!

Happy 65th birthday to Susan Sarandon! If you haven’t seen Sarandon’s love scene with Catherine Deneuve in 1983’s vampire thriller The Hunger, then your homework assignment is to rent that movie immediately. There will be a quiz.

Pink will star as a sex addict in the independent film Thanks For Sharing. The film, directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Stuart Blumberg (The Kids Are All Right), co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo and Joely Richardson. Pink will play an “edgy” character named Dede in the dramedy about a group of sex addicts who come together to overcome their addiction. I’m crossing my fingers for a Pink and Paltrow love scene (or two).

Yesterday, actress Angelina Jolie was in Switzerland honoring a Yemeni aid group at the U.N. Refugee Agency Awards. Jolie has been a part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees staff since 2001 and teared up when she took the podium. Jolie said, “I’m so grateful – I don’t want to cry – to the refugee families that I have the honor and privilege to spend the last years with. From them I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned to be a better person, a better mother. They’ve inspired me by showing me the unbreakable strength of the human spirit.”

Bridesmaids star and recent Emmy winner Melissa McCarthy is launching her own plus-size fashion line. McCarthy told the Hollywood Reporter that finding a dress to wear to this year’s Emmy Awards was a challenge. McCarthy, “Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.” I can’t wait to see what McCarthy creates.

Today host Ann Curry teamed up with Ellen DeGeneres to play a prank on some unsuspecting interviewees. Check out the below video, which brought me great joy.

Speaking of Ellen, she’ll be signing copies of her new book, Seriously… I’m Kidding, at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Barnes and Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles (189 The Grove Dr. LA, 90036). Check out the Barnes and Noble events Facebook page for more info.

Kristen Stewart is on the cover of British GQ. Stewart rocks a bikini in the November issue and dishes on fame and her next project, On the Road, based on Jack Kerouac‘s book of the same name.

Model/actress Lindsay Lohan can now add “author” to her resume. Lohan wrote a foreword for the new coffee table book Marilyn: Intimate Exposures, about the late Marilyn Monroe. The book was released this morning in the U.S. and a preview is available online.

On Thursday, October 6, the Indigo Girls will be performing at The Classic Center in Athens, GA. Tickets are still available for the 8 p.m. show.

Lesbian/Bi Image of the Day:

Doonesbury character Roz came out of the closet yesterday. Congratulations Roz, and welcome to the cool-kids-club! Roz revealed her sexuality to her Army Sergeant Melissa Wheeler and her mother in four cartoon panels. (I wish coming out had been that easy for me.)

And today Melissa and Roz’s in-depth conversation continued.

Thanks for the tip, Thomasina!
