Morning Brew – Friday, Sept. 30: Sara Gilbert to discuss her breakup on “The Talk,” “Whitney” goes for a lesbian kiss

Happy Friday all!

What are you doing this weekend? I am going to see two fabulous queer bands in Portland tonight: Lovers and The Shondes. If you’re in the area, come on out to the Doug Fir Lounge and don’t be shy.

Dorothy Snarker tipped me off to this, guys: Sara Gilbert will be talking about her breakup with Alli Adler on The Talk today. EW reports that Sara discusses finding someone you can make it work with, saying:

I’ve never been married, but I was in a long relationship. It’s emotional for me, because we’re not together. I wouldn’t trade that time…it’s such a special time in my life…But then you see people in their 70s and you wonder…how do they do it? How do they make it last? And I would like to think that I can.

Aw, Sara. You can find someone! And now that you are opening up a little, perhaps we will hear why Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete weren’t asked back to the show.

Portia de Rossi loves Sonic Youth, so she is one celebrity that picked her favorite song for the band’s new compilation album. She chose “Disappearer” and other famous fans who helped select tracks include Catherine Keener, Diablo Cody, Michelle Williams and Chloe Sevigny.

The Big Bang Theory‘s Mayim Bialik thinks that her character is more likely to get to second base with Kaley Cuoco than with Jim Parsons. She told New York magazine:

Oh no, I think that’s pushing it way too fast [to go to second base with Jim]. I like to joke that I also got to kiss Kaley Cuoco in that same episode, so I think it’s more likely I’ll get to second base with her.

I feel like that’s true. Writers, get on top of that!

Looking for another stunt lesbian kiss to tide you over in the meantime? Here’s one from last night’s Whitney.

Ah, the old “make a boy jealous/turned on by kissing me” trick. Lesbians have been using it for centuries. I’m on to you Zoe Lister Jones.

Rookie Magazine interviewed Carrie Brownstein where she offered some of her favorite books, bands and movies about teens. (Me Without You is such an amazing and underrated movie!)

While the Freeheld feature continues to find financing, Ellen Page keeps taking roles in other films. The latest is a rumored part in The East, where Page will play a woman part of an eco-terrorist group who gets preoccupied when her ex-boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgard) starts paying attention to Britt Marling (AKA Paige, the assumed lesbian on Community). I’d like for this to end with Ellen and Britt ditching Alex and leading The East together.

ScreenJunkies has a list of lesbians it would not kick off a plane. BTW guys, Brandon Teena is not a lesbian.

Marlene King is working on the script for the Mortal Instruments film adaptation. The young adult series by Cassie Clare follows a young demon-slaying Shadowhunter named Clary Fray. Lily Collins is said to be playing the lead role.

Speaking of Marlene, some more photos of the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode have been released and it’s from a time when Jenna could see, Alison was alive and Emily was straight.
