Afternoon Delight: Mindy Kaling gets a promotion, “Lipstikka” at TIFF

Good afternoon! Is it Friday yet?

This morning while sifting through the IMDb.com headlines, I came across, “New Muppets trailer parodies Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” to which I responded, “WTF? I have to see this!” Check out the trailer below. Personally, I see no resemblance to the epic and violent film, but maybe I’m just dumb? (Don’t answer that!)

Today the lovely Olivia Wilde (House) attended and sat in the front row at the Ralph Lauren fashion show during the Spring 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. At first I thought Wilde was sporting a tan necktie but then I realized that it is just her skin poking through the slit in her shirt. On a side note, I need to get my contact prescription checked.

Last Saturday, the controversial lesbian film Lipstikka made its North American debut at TIFF. Why are lesbian films always deemed “controversial”? Well, if gay films are automatically “controversial” then I think war movies should also be given that adjective. Anyway, Lipstikka is a “psychological drama which depicts the emotional and sexual bond between Lara & Inam, two Palestinian teenage girls from the West Bank.” If you’re in Toronto check out the film’s final TIFF screening on Sunday, September 18 at 1 p.m. at the AMC10.

Also at the TIFF, Emily Blunt‘s film Your Sister’s Sister has been picked up for distribution. The independent romantic dramedy will be distributed in North America and Latin America by IFC Films. Your Sister’s Sister is scheduled to be released in theaters next summer.

Congratulations to The Office‘s Mindy Kaling! Kaling got a major promotion and will now be an Executive Producer on the Emmy Award-winning show. Don’t worry, her character Kelly will still be the same flighty materialistic kookadook as always.

The Kids Are All Right‘s Julianne Moore has signed on to star in The English Teacher. The film, co-starring Nathan Lane and Greg Kinnear, follows a repressed woman who’s passionate about teaching. But first up on Moore’s film docket is the comedy Another B-llsh-t Night in Suck City, Game Change, What Maisie Knew, Nicholas North and The Seventh Son. When does Moore have time to sleep?

Couch Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) begrudgingly supports the “Glee Give a Note Project.” The project recognizes at-risk music programs and has guaranteed to donate $1,000,000 to keep music alive in schools. Check out the film’s website where you can enter and possibly win $50K for your school’s music program and watch Sylvester’s PSA.

On Wednesday, October 5, rock out with bands Antigone Rising and The Bangles at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Wanda Sykes will be performing tomorrow night at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma, WA. Tickets are still available for the 7:30 p.m. show.

It’s a little gloomy here in Los Angeles, so I thought I’d brighten up my day (and hopefully yours) with the Photo of the Day!

Over the summer Emmy award winning out actress and writer Carol Leifer posed with an adorable puppy at the 10th Annual North Shore Animal League America’s Lewyt Human Awards Lucheon. If you don’t like puppies then you have no soul! Or you just don’t like puppies.
