Afternoon Delight: Kate Winslet talks sex scenes, a great new commercial for marriage equality

Good afternoon!

Happy birthday to Kimberly Peirce! The Boys Don’t Cry writer/director turns 44 today.

Also, happy 32nd birthday to rockstar Pink.

Congratulations to Mary Tyler Moore, who will receive the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award during the 2012 SAG Awards ceremony. For some of you who are too young to be familiar with Moore’s work, she’s best known for 1970s hit television show The Mary Tyler Moore Show in which she played a single woman who worked as a local news producer in Minneapolis. Along with numerous television credits, Moore has starred in movies, on stage and has even written two memoirs. (I guess she forgot some tidbits in the first book.) Moore is an activist for diabetes awareness and animal rights (which she discussed in-depth during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show).

If you’re a Grey’s Anatomy superfan (admit it, you are), you’ll be happy to know that when Season 7 is released on DVD, it will feature extras from the special musical episode including an interview with creator Shonda Rhimes attributing the song choices to Tony-winning actress Sara Ramirez. (Way to go, Callie!) GA‘s Season 7 DVD hits stores September 13.

Lady Gaga will be taking over Times Square this New Year’s Eve. Gaga will join host Ryan Seacrest for the 40th anniversary of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC. While Gaga rocks the East coast, the Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie will host the West Coast feed of the show. (That should make my wife very happy.)

Speaking of ABC, one of stars of their upcoming seriesCharlie’s Angels is on the cover of October’s Cosmopolitan magazine. The Roommate‘s Minka Kelly reveals her “shocking past you haven’t heard about” and explains that she’s “excited by the idea of three women kicking ass and taking names.” The magazine cover also states it can “Shrink Your Inner Thighs! In six minutes a day.” I might have to subscribe to Cosmo.

Academy award winner and hero (she saved Richard Branson‘s mother from a burning home) Kate Winslet discussed her admiration for the late Elizabeth Taylor and her issues with nut sacks (join the club, lady!) in October’s V magazine. Winslet graces the cover and explains her views on shooting those not so sexy sex scenes: “I hate it! Listen make no mistake, I just get on it. I just go in and say ‘Oh f–k’ let’s do it.’ and boom. If you complain about it or procrastinate it’s not going to go away. It’s a profoundly bizarre thing to do. As actors you talk about it all the time. You can literally be tangled in sheets, and you turn to the other actor and say ‘What the f–k are we doing?’ Dear Mum, at work today I had so-and-so’s left nut sack pressed against my cheek. It’s sort of unethical if you think about it in those terms.”

Iron Chef Cat Cora wants you to tune in or set your DVRs tomorrow!

For all you True Blood fans, get ready for this Sunday’s season finale! My favorite vampire (besides Eric Northman) is Pam De Beaufort, played by the brilliant and hilarious Kristin Bauer. During an interview Bauer dished about the season’s epic ending but don’t worry – there are no spoilers in the video.

Psalm One is not happy about the media attention some of her least favorite female rappers are receiving. She explains why in her “Five Stupid Rap Whores I Want To Kick In The Crotch” piece for AboveGroundMagazine.com. Kreayshawn and V-Nasty, in particular, should maybe start wearing cups.

Video of the Day:

This commercial from Ireland’s Marriage Equality organization beautifully makes the case for full equality via civil marriage rights for same-sex couples.
