Morning Brew – Tuesday, Sept. 6: Charlize Theron and Marlene Dietrich in the same room, a lesbian wows on Aussie “X-Factor”

Good morning!

Did you have a nice long weekend? I had a lovely time at AfterEllen.com contributor Emily Hartl’s wedding. She looked gorgeous, of course! Here’s a pic of “You may now kiss your bride,” with me trying to shield Emily’s hair from the rain starting to fall.

Speaking of gorgeous, I am loving this new Dior short film starring Charlize Theron. The music is The Gossip and Charlize is sharing kisses and glances with Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe.

Rolling Stone thinks 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up?” is one of the worst songs of the ’90s. I just listened to again and wholeheartedly disagree. In fact, I think it’s one of the best, but I love screaming song lyrics so….

If you want to meet Brooke Vincent, she’s apparently working as a bartender in Manchester when she’s got free time from Corrie. Maybe she’s method acting and we’ll soon see Sophie delivering bodyshots at a lady bar.

Lost Girl‘s own bartender Trick (Rick Howland) told Monsters and Critics he loves how the show does its bisexual storyline.

I also think the element of bisexuality and homosexuality in the show isn’t kind of bash it over your head. You know… It’s not really seen as a problem or a hurdle in anyone’s lives. Especially the Fae. The Fae are kind of very excepting [sic] of everybody in everything that they do.

A few of us were at the recent Toronto Expo and this woman came up to the autograph table and she was in tears. She thanked Anna Silk and Zoe Palmer (Lauren) for having their relationship on the show. A lesbian encounter, bisexual lesbian encounter and it allowed her to come out as a lesbian to her mother. So… you know that’s a pretty important thing. It gives me chills to think that our little show about fantasy and Fae running around with swords and knives and things like that is actually giving people that kind of ability to find strength in their own lives and in themselves.

OK, just as long as everyone involved with Lost Girl is aware we are Team Bo/Lauren. Thanks!

Poet Sweta Srivastava Vikram has penned her first novel and it’s about a married woman who meets and falls in love with an Iranian woman in exile. It’s called Perfectly Untraditional, and sounds like a great read.

TNT has officially canceled Hawthorne, which isn’t a huge surprise considering Vanessa Lengies, who played lesbian nurse Kelly, has joined the cast of Glee.

OK, seriously? Lesbian Cougar Dating is a thing.

Desi models Yasmin Khan and Natasha Sikka posed seductively together for a new pro-gay marriage campaign. I’m not really sure how this works, but maybe someone will find themselves changing their mind on lesbians. (I’m an optimist.)

Out lesbian traffic controller Jayne Lilford has moved on to the second round of X-Factor in Australia. She sang Adele and you know that’s tough as hell!

Thanks for the tip, Brooke!
