Morning Brew – Monday, August 22: Rosie O’Donnell on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer get married

Good morning!

I hope you had a fab weekend. I went to a Portlandia event at Portland’s feminist bookstore/lending library, In Other Words. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen took questions, pictures and explained why they love shooting at the store, which fans of the show might recognize as Women & Women First.

I can’t wait for Season 2!

Also over the weekend, Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer got hitched in front of 200 people. Congrats to the happy blonde couple!

Now you might not believe me, but I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the best shows with lesbians on it around. Carol Leifer and Wanda Sykes guest star often and last night’s episode featured Rosie O’Donnell in a hilarious face off with Larry David. Here they fight over the same girl and decide she must be bisexual, after she gave her number to both of them.

If you have a chance to catch the whole episode, you should.

GIrl/Girl Scene has released a trailer for its upcoming sixth episode. Such a tease!

It’s been a while since we’ve had some Sophie and Sian spoilers, and I think Corrie fans won’t be too psyched on this one.

Remember the General Mills debacle I wrote about last week? The publicist reached out to tell me she was glad I contacted them and she “appreciated the opportunity to explain our decision to your readers.” She pointed out that GM has now penned a blog post about the situation, which you can read at their site. An excerpt:

We made our decision based on audience demographics. We also considered program content, which has evolved into areas such as stalking and student-teacher relationships. The sexual orientation of characters on the program wasn’t a factor. But that hasn’t stopped a stream of angry tweets.

How do you feel about the explanation?

Jennifer Beals is being honored with the Matthew Shepard Foundation’s Making a Difference Award. In a press release, Judy Shepard explains:

Jennifer has distinguished herself as a tremendous ally to the LGBT community with her highly visible support for equality.

And she looks good while doing it!
