Morning Brew – Tuesday, August 16: The lesbian nurse from “Hawthorne” joins “Glee,” another gay “Bad Girl”

Morning!

Let’s get started. It’s another season of Bad Girls Club on Oxygen, which means another lesbian bad girl! This time around it’s Shelly and she has a girlfriend in the military. Shelly recently got upset when her boo couldn’t come visit her in New Orleans, as DADT was still in effect at the time of taping.

In a Q&A on Oxygen.com, Shelly says she loves Angelina Jolie and her favorite magazines are Maxim and Playboy.

AE reader ddutchie 88 sent in a link to this video from a Glee live sing-along that has Dot Jones picking up Kristen Chenoweth and Cheno saying she wants Dot to eat her. (Swear to god.)

While we’re talking Glee, Hawthorne‘s resident lesbian nurse Vanessa Lengies is joining the cast as Sugar. Could she be a new love interest for Santana?

Beginning Sept. 1, Canadians can tune into Showcase for the subtext on Warehouse 13. I need to catch up on that show myself!

Well this is interesting: Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete might be leaving The Talk. It seems like the hosts have all formed friendships off-camera, so I’m surprised by this. Are they too expensive?

Holly Miranda is seeking your help to fund her next album. The video is pretty amazing and has Holly explaining why she’s going the crowdsourcing route.

Olivia Williams will be playing Eleanor Roosevelt in the new film Hyde Park on Hudson. Will they be showing any of her lesbian leanings? Time will tell. She writes about getting the look and diction right in an article for The Telegraph.

Troian Bellisario was asked which one of her Pretty Little Liars castmates were least like their character and she picked Shay Mitchell.

Shay, in terms of being sweet and sensitive — she’s like Emily. But Shay comes to set in the morning, it’ll be seven in the morning, she’ll come in heels, skinny jeans, the most gorgeous, glamorous top and her hair is like a Pantene Pro-V ad. Then she’ll come film her scene wearing these dirty converse and jeans as Emily — which is like what I arrived in. And I’m like “Who are you?” It’s so funny to see her kick off her sneakers at the end of the day and go home in heels.

Speaking of Emily, WetPaint put up a poll to find out which PLL couple fans ship the most, and it was her and Maya that swept the competition!

Kreayshawn (aka “I may or may not be a lesbian 50 percent of the time”) is on the cover of this month’s i-D magazine. She shares the spotlight with five other “it girls,” including Riley Keough, the star of the film that feels like it is never going to come out, Jack & Diane.

Mirah and Tender Forever have released a hot new track called “Low Self Control.” You can get it on iTunes today.

Girl in a Coma have released their new album cover and I am digging it. Exits & All the Rest comes out Nov. 1, and the ladies are on tour with the Go-Gos now. (What an awesome line-up!)

Vicci Martinez tells us what she’s been up to since The Voice ended.

Mike Myers is all about my boo, Rachel Maddow. He has a new regular column for the Final Edition called “Mad About Maddow.” He recently was sad to see she was on vacation, but hoped she’d eaten a lot of ice cream because that’s what he would do.

A new record label called Punk Start My Heart is raising money for their upcoming music fest Not Enough! Festival, “a 2-day music, art, and film festival showcasing new collaborative-based work of Portland’s diverse queer community.” The money also goes to helping their bands record albums, and they have an impressive line-up including Forever, Radio Sloan’s new band Tombstalker and F—ing Lesbian Bitches. Check it out and throw them $10 or so.

Hunx & His Punx are a totally queer punk-bop (I just made that up) band that you should know about. This video shows some highlights from their recent tour. Fall in love!

Doesn’t that look fun? Let’s all go to Vegas. Oh look — here’s a lesbian event in Vegas! It’s called Shedonism Las Vegas and is described as “a Sinful women’s weekend you will never forget.” The Real L Word girls will be on hand for dance and pool parties and a celebrity poker tournament. It’s all going down Sept. 15 – Sept. 19. Here’s the flyer for further details:
