Afternoon Delight: Dianna Agron in “Flaunt,” Sick of Sarah’s video for “Giving Up”

Good afternoon!

Happy birthday to D.E.B.S. actress Sara Foster! Weeds actress Mary-Louis Parker is also celebrating her birth today. The Fried Green Tomatoes star (and Cat on the Prowl guest star) is 47.

The lovely (and openly bisexual) Evan Rachel Wood joins George Clooney and Ryan Gosling for The Ides of March. Gosling plays “an idealistic staffer for a newbie presidential candidate (Clooney) gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail.” From the looks of the trailer Wood plays Gosling’s love interest, but hopefully her character has a little more development than that. The Ides of March lands in theaters October 7.

Dolly Parton has apologized to the lesbians who were hassled by a Dollywood gatekeeper over one of them wearing a “Marriage is So Gay” T-shirt to Parton’s theme park.

Congratulations to Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren for taking home the title of “Body of the Year.” Who crowned Mirren the victor? My gym. WTF? The L.A. Fitness gym chain surveyed 2,000 people and these random sweaty strangers voted Mirren the winner.

Glee‘s Dianna Agron flaunts her stuff for Flaunt. The 25-year-old actress talks about how she’s treated differently with her new cropped hair. “It’s almost like putting on the glasses and all of a sudden you’re smarter. It’s a very interesting and lovely observation that I keep having of how people treat me now that my hair’s different.” The one time I cut my hair short, I looked like a pumpkin.

Some of you may already know that I’ve launched an imaginary “Haters Don’t Hate” campaign. Well Amber Heard is dealing with her own group of haters. At the TCA, Heard responded to The Playboy Club haters who have been criticizing her new NBC sitcom even though they haven’t seen it yet. The Parents Television Council wrote a letter to NBC complaining about the show and a Salt Lake City NBC affiliate banned the show from its fall lineup. Their loss!

Heard said, “I would love to hear the criticism of the show after it comes out. I’m not interested in hearing criticism on the show from people who haven’t seen the show. By today’s standards my Bunny suit is far less risqué than 99 percent of the photos you will see in any given magazine right now on any given billboard on any given show. The costume I wear is far less revealing than a bathing suit, and a modern one-piece bathing suit at that.”

All right, you Los Angeles ladies! Tomorrow night, August 3, Girlbar is throwing a big bash at The Abbey at 7 p.m. While you’re dancing to the music and sipping on your Shirley Temples check out the new GB go-go dancers. I’m sure they all trained at Alvin Ailey and are working themselves through dental school.

This Friday, August 5 the one and only k.d. lang will be on NPR’s World Café. (Click this link to find your local NPR station.)
