Your Weekly Women to Listen to: The Ditty Bops, Natu, Electrik Red and more!

Cue the Humpty Dance! We’ve made it to another Wednesday and I got a fantastic Pride compilation mix in the mail that I’m ready to bust out and get down to. It also came with some music from the band, Japanese Popstars, who are rocking my dance booty right now! Check them out if you haven’t already (for those of you who like club music/electronica/D&B). On with the music!

File Under: Cute, playful, melodic ditties to put a smile on your face

From: Los Angeles

For Fans of: The Puppini Sisters, Butterfly Boucher, Nellie McKay, parasols, slicked hair, picnics anywhere, The Bird and the Bee, Environmental causes, happy episodes of Grey’s Anatomy

Bonus: Fans will be happy to know the adorable married duo have a new album, Love Letters coming out soon. As an added bonus, I’ll be interviewing Amanda next week so if you have any questions for her, let me know!

File Under: Really interesting R&B with a soul all its own and a little trip-hop thrown in. I have no clue what she’s saying but I like it!

From: Poland

For Fans of: Lauren Hill, Ayo, B. Steady’s (of Lost Bois) solo YouTube project, India Arie, sipping vodka, flirting with your eyes from across the room, getting/giving goose bumps from neck kisses.

Bonus: Super thanks to AfterEllen reader Natalie for the suggestion! What a great find, I hope things are starting to get back to normal for you in Japan.

File Under: Horror Punk

From: helL.A.

For Fans of: White Zombie, The Misfits, The Adicts, Alien Sex Fiend, Fangoria magazine, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original), lizards for pets, smudged eyeliner, knee socks with chunky steal-toed boots and a dress or skirt.

Bonus: Shout out to my lesbro Scott, master of metal who introduces me to pretty much every dark-themed metal or punk artist I know. It’s a good thing I know you like puppies and cute things too, otherwise I’d be worried about you.

File Under: Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B

From: NYC & Canada

For Fans of: Teairra Mari, Ciara, Missy Elliot, Kelis, tying cherry stems with your mouth, shower stalls for two people (or one stall for two people), deep red nail-polish, owning too many hair care products for your bathroom.

Bonus: Not only are the girls hot, they also all started as backup dancers so they can move their stuff too!

File Under: Total dopeness, indie electronica

From: UK

For Fans of: Martina Topley-Bird, Tricky, Kelis, Adele (not in sound, but there’s something making me feel like if you’re a fan of Adele, you’ll enjoy this), Lily Allen, Katy B, big cities, eating at all-night diners, singing in the car or shower at the top of your lungs.

Bonus: Anita Blay (aka cocknbullkid) is one of the few artists who has had the honor of performing live on Later…with Jools Holland. For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it’s by far one of the best music shows to ever air and it’s put on by the BBC. If you don’t get the BBC channel, you’re in luck because most of the time the friendly people of YouTube will have posted performances (if you’re in the States you can’t watch the shows from the BBC website, unfortunately).

That’s all for this week. I hope to see some of you at the Chicago Pride Parade this Sunday and I hope all of you enjoy your Pride month in style! Oh and I want to note that there’s a lesbian music tour taking place in various parts of the East Coast around July 4. The Sounds of Pride Tour will kick off July 2 in Massachusetts.
