Morning Brew – Friday, June 3: Pics from “The Real L Word” premiere party, Tegan and Sara joke about Tyler the Creator

Friday! I hope you guys have a great weekend.

The Real L Word starts up again on Sunday, and Whitney Mixter told her hometown Connecticut newspaper that she’s discovered the show’s demographic:

A lot of male cops recognize me for some reason, and they always comment in a good way. Maybe it will result in fewer tickets, I don’t know.

She also explained that she is a role model, even if she didn’t intend to be:

Being in the public eye and a lesbian woman, it’s a natural thing, whether or not you see yourself as a role model, you are in some sense. If I can help them give them confidence, and show that being an individual is being celebrated, that’s an honor for me.

How many aspiring Whitneys do we have out there? Anyone?

Showtime threw a premiere party for all the cast this week, too. Here are some shots.

In a new blog on their website, Tegan and Sara interview one another about their summer plans. They end it in a comical reference to the Tyler the Creator Tweet that came out of Sara’s previous blog post re: his homophobia. Here’s the exchange:

Sara: Well, I’m also excited about new songs, and summer and lunch. So I won’t ask you anything else. Next week let’s do a video blog though. Have a great day, wear sun block!

Tegan: Thank you. Enjoy the hot weather, your air conditioning and doing absolutely nothing. Also, if you’re looking for a hard d-ck, Tyler The Creator has one. *(I doubt it).

I’m so glad they can have a sense of humor about his ridiculousness. I got yo back, girls!

CMJ recorded this cool interview with Katie Stelmanis of Austra, aka one of my favorite new acts. She explains the meaning behind the band’s name.

Speaking of music, St. Vincent has announced her new album will drop in September. It’ll be called Strange Mercy.

If you happen to spot a link on the net touting a Hayden Panettiere and Rihanna sex tape, do not click! It’s a scam, preying on everyone’s apparent want to see the two of these women make out. What an odd pairing! Still, it appears they’ve met.
