New Music Tuesday: 12-21-2010

Another Tuesday has arrived and this week there aren’t a lot of new releases, so I guess it’s a great time for you to take a look back at what has come out already and you can compose your year-end best-of list. I won’t even go there because no one wants me to go on and on about Robyn, Kelis and Sia, including myself. I’d rather just keep on listening while I sprinkle in some old Mariah and maybe a little Elvis and Billie Holiday.

Ms. Hilson took her album title directly from my bedroom policy and I couldn’t be happier. This album ebbs and flows in terms of reminding me of Rihanna, M.I.A., Missy Elliott and Christina Aguilera while remaining herself. It’s a little all over the place and I think I like it.

I never really thought about it before, but I guess it makes sense to have a lot of R&B albums coming out around this time of year — due to the need to get warm, turn on a fire and drink some wine (even if you’re singing about heartbreak or curing out your former lover). Keyshia’s albums have done well in the past so I’m sure this will be a hit with her fan base. Personally, I’m not blown away, but my favorite song on the album is her jam with Faith Evans, “If I Fall In Love Again”.

Honorable Mentions: Brand Nubian, Duran Duran, Jamie Foxx, Avant, Ghostface Killah, Josh Groban and Ray LaMontagne & The Pariah Dogs.

Have a fantastic holiday and for the rest of my Jewish members of the tribe, enjoy your movies and Chinese food.
