Morning Brew – Monday, December 13: AJ Cook to play a lesbian on “SVU,” Tina Mabry gets a huge grant for next film

Happy Monday, all.

The Daily Beast knows what brings hits to their site: Lesbians! They have two photo essays up right now that could be of interest: “Girl Crushes,” aka their list of women they could maybe kiss while drunk, and “The Year in Celesbians,” which features Oprah saying she’s not gay. I probably wouldn’t have included that in a list about celesbians, but the rest is right on.

Speaking of Oprah, Hustler is putting out a Gayle and Oprah porn, aka hiring actors that look nothing like them to pretend it’s a secret sex tape. Will people seriously buy this?

Audible.com is a site for downloading audio books, and their newest selection, while short, is also their most sapphic. Get your own copy of Girl Fun: Adventures in Lesbian Loving, Volume 1 and listen to it during a holiday flight or drive, or to drown out any homophobes around the dinner table.

Out model Freja Beha Erichsen is the face of Harry Winston Jewelry. Here’s a couple photos from the ad campaign. You can see the rest of them here. (Yes, I purposely left out the one with the baby prop.)

Best selling author Debra Ginsberg has published a new book, The Neighbors are Watching, and one set of neighbors happen to be a lesbian couple. They become involved with the lives of the family at the center of the story, and one of them is named Sam, short for Samara. (Of course!)

This week, gay podcast SixPack interviewed Whitney Mixter of that one show The Real L Word.

I have learned two things about myself and other lesbians today. First, we make more money than straight women. Secondly, we have a more “masculine finger arrangement.” Sorry, straight women, you can’t fake masculine fingers!

She may have been booted from Criminal Minds, but AJ Cook will guest star on Law & Order: SVU as a lesbian who is brutally attacked. Um, yay? I mean, great to see Cook again, but let’s hope the story has a happy ending. The episode, “Mask,” will air in early 2011. Also, she’s a brunette now.

Tellofilms.com will be launching their premium content in 2011, and for $3.99 a month, you can view all episodes of 3Way, Brunch with Bridget and Real Girls Guide to Everything Else. Plus they’ll be launching two new series, McManusLand and Cowgirl Up. That’s a lot of lesbian content! Is it 2011 yet?

Some d-bag poured a bottle of urine all over the LGBT books section in the Harvard University Lamont Library. I don’t know him/her personally, but I assume it’s pretty safe to refer to them as such. The books are ruined, unfortunately, but here’s hoping they will get replaced.

Out filmmaker Tina Mabry has been awarded a $50,000 grant from United States Artists, which means we can probably expect her follow-up to Mississippi Damned sooner than later. I, for one, can’t wait. She’s pretty much a genius behind the camera.

Last week we told you Martina Navratilova was attempting to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to breathe during the climb and had to be hospitalized. Get well soon, Martina. Breathing is kind of important!

Elisa Kreisinger makes the coolest video remixes, where she queers Sex and the City and Real Housewives. The Daily Brink spoke with her about her work, which you should become familiar with if you aren’t already. An excerpt:

The Daily Brink: Picking through Sex and the City for these very nuanced, hypothetical lesbian moments between heterosexual characters reminded me a lot of queer interpretations of Jane Austin novels.

Elisa: I in no way want to make it seem like women can’t have close relationships with each other for fear of being labeled gay. But I think for women who are looking for a more subversive narrative, we cling to that subtext of “oh my God, that could kind of be gay!” For people who have very little representation and visibility in our popular culture, you’re going to cling to anything you have. When you’re culturally “poor” for representation, you have to reuse the media whether it be for subtext or whatever you make up for your own entertainment.

Elisa also notes she’d like to queer Mad Men, which I’m definitely on board for!

Today on TV: The Ellen DeGeneres Show Make Room For Multiples (TLC 9:30 a.m.), The Talk (CBS 2 p.m.), a lesbian re-run of Bones (TNT 7 p.m.), The Rachel Maddow Show (MSNBC 9 p.m. and midnight), Jane Lynch on Two and a Half Men (CBS 9 p.m.) , Tabatha’s Salon Takeover (Bravo 10 p.m.) and Men of a Certain Age (TNT 10 p.m.) (Thanks Roni!)
