The Weekly Geek: More Liara in “Mass Effect 2”

Avid readers of this column will know that Mass Effect 2 (as well as the original) has a very special place in my heart. Big, grand space operas with lots of relationship-building and alien courting, it’s one of the few series wherein gamers can pursue a “serious” same-sex relationship with a female character.

So imagine my joy when the announcement came through earlier this week that a brand new downloadable mission featuring Liara T’soni (the blue badass alien lady with whom you can pursue a very, very sexy romance with a female Shepard) will soon be upon us.

From EA’s site:

“Liara T’Soni is tracking down the mysterious Shadow Broker, and no one is safe. She’ll do anything to recover the man the Broker kidnapped … and the Shadow Broker’s agents will do anything to stop her. Team up with Liara and chase clues from the luxurious heights of Illium to the Shadow Broker’s own secret lair. Adds the Shadow Broker intel center, new research and five new achievements – and the chance to continue a relationship with Liara.”

It’s coming on Sept. 7 and will cost 800 Microsoft points (that’s $10 in human money). So far, the DLC packs have been well worth the time and spacebucks, so if BioWare makes good with a decent mission and some Liara smooching, I will be a very happy camper.

Going from the “must-have” to the “hey, maybe if you’re a really big fan” end of the spectrum is this glorious Star Wars Celebration V item: Slave Leia perfume. If you’re interested in the scent that’s “More powerful than a thermal detonator yet more comfortable than a metal bikini!” or perhaps just looking for that special jen e se qua for your Slave Leia cosplay outfit, you’ve come to the right place.

From the Star Wars Shop:

“Whether you’re on a daring rescue mission or are being held captive by a nefarious slug/gangster, your regal bearing lets the world know that despite appearances, you’re no one’s servant. Fearless and inventive, Slave Leia Perfume includes floral top notes of white peach, lily, bergamot, heliotrope and raspberry that dry down to a warm sultry mix of cashmere woods, musk and night-blooming jasmine.”

If you prefer something a little more masculine, there’s also Eau Lando, which, I kid you not, comes with a little cape around the bottle. A cape.

What do you think, readers? Will you be downloading the extra Liara next month, maybe splashing on a touch of Leia perfume first for good luck?
