Morning Brew – Mattel says they won’t be selling Abby Wambach Barbies

Good morning! Every day this week we’re going to have a poll that I would love your vote in, as all results will be used in our new episodes of AfterEllen’s Chat Room. Indulge me, please!

In some really unfortunate news, Mattel is receiving tweets from anxious Abby Wambach doll fans who heard last week’s announcement of the soccer star’s Barbie, ready for their own, and responding like this:

Considering how many people were thrilled about the Abby Barbie (and there was no indication in Mattel’s somewhat self-congratulatory announcement of the doll that it was the only one that would ever exist), it’s incredibly disheartening to hear they won’t be creating any others. Mattel has previously done smaller runs of celebrity-themed dolls like director Ava DuVernay, whose dolls sold out almost immediately online. Feel free to Tweet Mattel and let them know how you feel. This is how I feel:

Orange is the New Black‘s Catherine Curtain stars as “Cy, a woman who is kicked out of the army for being a lesbian” in Burning, on stage at the Theatre at St. Clement’s in New York through February 28.
