Morning Brew – Country group Little Big Town releases a song called “Girl Crush”

Good morning!

X-Factor contestant Jack Walton talked publicly about his mother’s coming out to him.

….I was 11 when I found out and I got a lot of stick for it. All my mates were saying ‘Oh, that’s gay’, and I’d say, ‘Don’t say that about my mum’. I tried to explain to them what it’s like. And I’d say, ‘If it was your mum, how would you feel?’ You can’t disown your mum. If she is happy, that’s the main thing. When I asked if she [was], she said, ‘I’m whatever you want to call me, but I’m in love with Jackie’. So I suppose that sums it up. I wasn’t ashamed of anything. I just wanted to tell other people.”

Arya Stark’s new role in The Falling is a tad lesbiany according to this review: “If there’s a faintly Sapphic undertow to the relationship between Abigail and her less glamorous best friend Lydia (prodigiously gifted Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams), it appears to have already peaked.”

Nicki Minaj explained her recent “Anaconda” video to GQ saying:

“I think the video is about what girls do. Girls love being with other girls, and when you go back to us being younger, we would have slumber parties and we’d be dancing with our friends.”

Some of us still have those kinds of get-togethers every single night!

Glee/American Horror Story creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Dante Di Loreto are bringing another new show to Fox. Scream Queens is described as “a new genre-bending comedy-horror anthology series….[that] revolves around a college campus which is rocked by a series of murders.” I’m in!

While we’re goin’ country, Little Big Town has a new song called “Girl Crush” but it’s really an inaccurate title as apparently the song is about “a girl obsessing over another girl because that girl stole her lover.” However, there are a few Sapphic touches in the tune, a reviewer notes: “It’s more about wanting to taste her lips in order to taste him and to drown in her perfume, to have her long blond hair — and so on — all in an effort to get him back. So the crush/obsession is just the inability to get her off her mind.”
