Morning Brew – MK Nobilette makes the top 13 on “American Idol”

Good morning! Happy Friday!

I have to say that I’m very disappointed in Arizona and Kansas. If you are currently living in either of those places, I am so sorry that you have to deal with that kind if bigotry close to home. It’s not right.

In other shitty state news, a South Carolina college has been defunded after assigning Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home to students. Is it seriously 2014? Because I feel like some people are stuck in the 1800s.

America voted and out lesbian contestant MK Nobilette is now an American Idol finalist. She made the top 13 on last night’s results show, which means I definitely have to watch this show now.

I positively love this electric blue suit on Monica Raymund. She wore it to a Chicago Fire & Chicago PD panel in Chicago this week.

Lauren German opted for a mix of leather tough and long-flowy feminine.

Here Shawson are with Chicago PD stars Marina Squerciati and Sophia Bush.

The OC Register spoke with Amber Heard about her career and people “talking about her.”

“I’ve always had the misfortune of living a life that seems to be salacious to other people. It doesn’t matter who I’m dating. People have always talked about me. … People were always rolling their eyes. My parents, their friends, my friend’s parents — they just didn’t get it. There was always something I was getting into that shocked them, and nothing changed when I got here. In all my relationships, there was something to gossip about. I’ve always done exactly what I wanted to do.”

The Stir has a satirical piece about a father who is raising his daughter to be a lesbian. (You can’t do it, duh!)

AE reader Claudia sent us this great “Behind the Kiss” director’s cut shot detail from the Pretty Little Liars noir episode. Director J.G. Dougherty writes about the Paige and Emily love scene:

The network felt the scene in the director’s cut was too explicit and went on too long for a program on ABCFamily. They asked for changes. We went back and forth pushing as far as we felt we could, but not wanting to jeopardize the entire sequence. I felt this was something important for the characters and the audience to experience, even in a slightly toned-down version.

Film Editor Robert Lattanzio went back into the scene, shortened some shots and selected different takes. The scene of the two girls in bed in the broadcast version is approximately nine seconds shorter than the version in the director’s cut.

Figures!

Out lesbian Lauren Custer Dowling has been named as the new Vice President of Development for GLAAD. That means there are two lesbians in prime positions at the media organization! Lauren comes to GLAAD from the LA Gay and Lesbian Center.

Are you getting married soon? Need a dress? A TLC show seeks women in lesbian relationships to be a part of their new reality series.

Move over, Fosters: The New York Times has a great piece on a lesbian couple in the Bronx with 20 kids. OK, not all at once, but over 10 years, they’ve raised that many foster children. Such beautiful photos, too.

New York’s Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art has a new exhibition called “Queer Threads: Crafting Identity and Community.”

Funny or Die remembers how great Rosie O’Donnell’s show was in the ’90s.

Nicole Scherzinger was caught rubbing her hands all over Jessie J’s booty. This booty right here.

Just making sure you have a clear idea of what booty we are talking about.
