Janelle Monáe Just Signed A Deal With Universal Pictures
Janelle Monáe and her multimedia company, Wondaland Pictures, have signed a first look deal with Universal Pictures. They will develop “multi-genre content” to champion “underrepresented voices and groundbreaking perspectives.”
Donna Langley, Universal chairman, praised Monáe and her team. “There is an exciting, artistic revolution taking place in our industry, and Janelle and the talented team at Wondaland are at the forefront. Their forward-thinking, inclusive approach to content and storytelling make them a perfect fit for our studio.”
Monáe’s current working relationship with Universal includes ‘Welcome to Marwen’ and Focus Features’ Harriet Tubman biopic, ‘Harriet.’ The Grammy-nominated singer also had a role in best picture winner, ‘Moonlight,’ and starred in the Oscar-nominated film, ‘Hidden Figures.’
