Romance, sex and fandom rule in “The Secret Loves of Geek Girls”

Calling all geek girls, fangirls and bois! There’s a new exciting project in the works that blends comics with writings from some pretty amazing ladies in the geekdom universe. The Secret Loves of Geek Girls launched their Kickstarter yesterday and have already reached the halfway point of their goal. It’s not hard to see why.

The Secret Loves of Geek Girls will delve into stories about sex, love and romance, all from the perspective of some of your favorite geek girls. The book will be a combination of comics, illustrated stories and essays and features pieces by Sam Maggs (The Mary Sue, The Fangirls Guide to the Galaxy), Kate Leth (Kate or Die, POWERUP) and even bestselling writer and activist, Margaret Atwood.

Of course no geek girl anthology would be complete without stories from queer perspectives . Sam Maggs, along with illustrator Selena Goulding, talks about her affection for Bioware love interests, including Dragon Age‘s Isabela. J.M Frey (The Untold Tale) pens “How Fanfiction Made Me Gay,” and Rachel Deering‘s “MONSTERS, MAIDENS, and METAL: The Darker Side of Fandom and the Lesbians Who Love It” sounds right up our alley. Not all the descriptions are fully listed so we are hoping to see more queertastic entries in the future as well.

The Secret Loves of Geek Girls will contain stories from not only fans, but those who are on the creative side of fandom as well. The perks are pretty fantastic too, and include copies of the finish book as well as original art from some of the talented contributors. If you want to contribute to the book, check out their Kickstarter here!
