Winter is getting closer in “Game of Thrones” promos

Earlier this year, Dorothy Snarker brought us the excellent news that Lena Headey would return to the small screen as Queen Cersei in HBO’s Game of Thrones, an original series based on the first book in George R.R. Martin‘s best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire.

Sunday we got another look at the series, which premieres in 2011, and if you know Game of Thrones, you definitely want to see these. To get you in the mood, here’s the promo that broke in June, called “Winter Is Coming.”

That set the tone and, to me at least, is a good sign that the series will have the same stark feel as the books. Here’s the newest clip, “Raven.” That’s Headey as the Queen at about :11.

HBO also released a behind-the-scenes video with interviews from Martin, Sean Bean (who plays Eddard “Ned” Stark), and executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.

I love hearing that Martin felt like he was walking into his dream. The makers of Game of Thrones are fans of the books, so we have reason to be optimistic about the translation to TV.

We’re also optimistic about seeing a lot of Headey and newcomer Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen.

I don’t have much information about Clarke (her only IMDb-listed role is in the British drama Doctors), but she is quite lovely.

We will have more as Game of Thrones continues production. What do you think of GoT so far?
