In a few weeks, Ms. Snarker may get her wish. Danes stars in a new Showtime series, Homeland, that looks like it could be another hit for the network.
Homeland revolves around a CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Danes) who suspects that a recently rescued American POW may be part of an Al Qaeda terrorist plot to be carried out in the U.S. Damian Lewis, known around here as “that guy who followed Sarah Shahi around on Life,” plays Sergeant Nicholas Brody, the just-released Marine.
The idea that Brody is anything but a hero is inconceivable for everyone but Carrie. However, the agent’s history of mental illness (she takes anti-psychotics) and a recently botched mission causes her colleagues and supervisors to question her judgment. Even Carrie’s supporter and mentor, CIA Middle East Division Chief Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) is skeptical.
Here’s the extended trailer.
Sci-fi goddess Morena Baccarin (V) plays Brody’s wife Jessica, who faces the challenge of adjusting to her husband’s return after eight years of thinking that he’s dead and raising the kids who don’t really remember him.
(That picture’s not from Homeland, but we can use our imaginations. In fact, I’m pretty sure we all are.)
Like most of Showtime’s central female characters, Carrie is deeply flawed, willing to violate the Patriot Act on a regular basis if that’s the only way to get evidence. And her off hours are spent seducing men, always wearing a phony wedding ring to keep them from expecting more than a one-night stand.
I forgive you, Carrie. Just come over here and sit by me.
Homeland starts October 2, right after the Dexter premiere. And I think it’s going to be the perfect match.
