Season 6 of Weeds still is a few months away, but we got some disappointing news this week: Elizabeth Perkins has left the grow house.
After five seasons of playing the wackier-by-the-day Celia Hodes, Perkins has two projects planned: a role in the CGI/live-action hybrid film I Hop and development of a comedy series in which she will star.
Reportedly, Perkins will not appear at all in Weeds’ sixth season, which means that we don’t even get to say goodbye to Celia. I hate that. Sure, Celia was pretty much a mess last year, but that was indicative of the whole of Season 5. The move from Agrestic to the border was not good for anyone, to be honest.
But Perkins earned three Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for earlier seasons as Celia, so her character deserves a proper sendoff. She was the perfect foil for Mary-Louise Parker’s Nancy Botwin and we will miss the humor — and subtext — of the interaction between Celia and Nancy.
The very good news is that Isabelle Hodes no longer will be the lone lesbian on Weeds. EW.com reported Monday that Linda Hamilton has signed on to play a lesbian in a multi-episode arc. Yes, the original Sarah Connor.
Hamilton will play Linda, “an eco-conscious marijuana grower who, along with her life partner Fiona, helps Nancy’s endeavors in Seattle take bloom.” I don’t know how you feel about this, but one of my lesbian dreams is about to come true.
In other Weeds news, Showtime released the Season 6 promotional poster. As usual, Parker is a vision of hotness.
Weeds Season 6 premiers August 16. Will you be watching? Any casting suggestions for Hamilton’s partner?
