Watch Now! Mia Kirshner keeps a straight face when Kevin Murphy asks if she feels bad for her “Defiance” character

Welcome back to Mia Kirshner week here at AfterEllen.com! As you know by now, I’m a big, big fan of Syfy’s Defiance, and this week’s Kenya-heavy episode only made me love it more. Not only because we got lots of Mia, but also because showrunner Kevin Murphy proved definitively that he knows how to write complex and authentic female characters and female relationships. Before we move along to next week’s episode, you’ve got to watch this video in which Kevin talks to Mia about Kenya’s backstory. The whole Q&A is pretty great. Mia talks about crashing her bike before the episode. But the best part is when Kevin asks her how it feels, as an actor, to find out something tragic about your character – and Mia manages to keep a straight face.

Sweet Kevin Murphy, no matter what you toss at Kenya, it’ll never compare to what The L Word hurled at her.

By the way, I keep meaning to ask you guys: Who do you think would win in a fist fight, Kenya or Jenny?
