Koma - the personality - was born on AfterEllen on May 20th, 2004. Since that time, she has met her wife on AE, been appointed "Best Mod in the World" (at least in her own modest mind), and engaged in 34,971 debates (winning all of them, of course).

In real life, I am an American expat (originally from a small town in Maryland) living in the United Kingdom with my British "wife partner", Kirsty. I am overly pedantic in nature, ridiculously loquacious in print and quiet in real life.

I changed my major seven times at university - still brag about it - and finally settled on an English degree because I could "still write about all that other stuff anyway". My pet peeves are poor punctuation and poor spelling, particularly in corporate marketing/sales materials (websites, brochures, restaurant menus, etc). I am also fluent in two languages - English and American.

I hold a self-employed day job as a freelance web writer/web developer; I'm not sure if such a profession truly exists, but let it suffice to say I spend most of my days writing technologically-sound web copy on such diverse subjects as trampolines, plastic surgery, video games and more. (I can't complain.)

Although I now live in England, I have a great love for most things American, including food (Q'doba burritos, mozzarella sticks and broccoli cheese soup), sports (Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens), culture, entertainment and the weather; however, I don't care much for the current American "leadership".
