Raised by nice Midwestern wolves, Byatt spent many years toiling in various frozen climates in pursuit of assorted degrees. Eventually, she politely fled academia (after all, they were Midwestern wolves who raised her) to Baltimore, where she managed to parlay her degrees into a reasonably well-paying and intellectually satisfying job. Finding true love, conveniently located across the country, she exchanged her career for a poorly-paying and intellectually stifling term of indentured servitude. Rescued from this fate, Byatt is currently exploring the joys of tele-commuting to her former employer in Baltimore. Chief among these joys is the ability to check Afterellen.com a ridiculous number of times per day from her home office.
