I'm half-British, half-American, but have lived in the UK for most of my life (supplemented by occasional trips to New York and California). I studied English literature at university. I've written a lot of pieces for AfterElton.com, as well as a few for AfterEllen; here are the two I thought came out best:

I love Paris, New York, Spain, Italy, the coast, the mountains, the English countryside, London, novels, tea and Viennese cake, eighteenth century art, nineteenth century operas, glossy black and white musicals with Fred Astaire, brash Technicolor musicals with Gene Kelly, dance, rhythm, music, parsley, celery, anything sharp fresh green and with bite, people who are sarcastic, quick, funny, intelligent, well-read, cheerful, optimistic, kind, confident and outgoing, and want to find a very large waterfall to stand under in the sunshine. Or maybe miserable, misanthropic, withdrawn, and wanting to throw rocks at people from their cave. I love pretty women with strength and pretty men with vulnerability. I can't see myself surviving for very long in a conversation with someone who doesn't like to read.
