“Untouchable Girls” shows lesbian twin comedians in their element

The Topp Twins are a huge hit in New Zealand. They starred in their own primetime show in the 1990s, The Topp Twins, and their country has dubbed them “a beloved cultural institution.” They were also recently inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.

Why can’t America be this cool? Where are our regularly televised folk singing comedic lesbian twins?

A new documentary, Untouchable Girls, follows the twins, Jools and Lynda Topp, in their daily routine, which involves preparing for and playing gigs, much like another famous New Zealand duo, Flight of the Conchords. Like the Flight of the Conchords guys, the Topp Twins have a unique and adorable rapport that makes them instantly loveable. Hopefully with the release of the documentary, they will get more recognition internationally.

You can watch a small portion of the film here, where Jools and Lynda discuss some of their favorite characters and show parts of their performances.

Then check out the listings on the Twins’ website, topptwins.com, to see if Untouchable Girls is playing somewhere near you.
