Ugly Betty sings, dances and rides bareback

With only two episodes left of Ugly Betty this season, news about the finale and new season is coming in fast and more furious than one of Wilhelmina’s withering put downs. Guest stars for the finale include Kristin Chenoweth, Gina Gershon and Mexico’s own Ugly Betty, Angélica Vale (star of the telenovela “La Fea Más Bella”). I say, double your Bettys, double your fun.

Last night’s episode saw all the Mode secretaries, I mean, administrative professionals, head to a restaurant called the Middle Ages to joust, drink grog and ride the mechanical steed. As much as I love hearing Betty scream, “These are thighs of steel!” (seriously, put that on a loop and I’ll be happy for days), the show has lost a little steam in the second half of the season. Am I worried about it reaching the dreaded Fonzie waterskiing moment? No, it’s way to early. But the line between camp and catastrophe, sweet and saccharine is as thin as a Jimmy Choo stiletto heel.

Still, if the reports from the recent Academy of Television Arts & Sciences panel discussion on the show are any indication, producers are well on their way to a fabulous second season. How fabulous? Think a musical episode. Executive producer Marco Pennette confirmed that an all-singing, all-dancing episode was in the works. Be still my heart.

Speaking of pulse quickening, series star America Ferrera confessed at the same event that it wasn’t just executive producer Salma Hayek‘s sales pitch that closed the deal when she signed on to be Betty.

Oh, America. Don’t tell me Salma had to use the “Uh, my eyes are a little higher” line on you, too.
