This news might not make some of you happy: Kalinda’s getting a boyfriend on The Good Wife. Showrunner/producer Robert King told me they enjoy taking Kalinda (played by Archie Panjabi) “back and forth” on the show, but it seems she’s going to find male companionship in 2012.
“Possibly more a boyfriend than a girlfriend very soon,” King told me at the CBS/Showtime TCA Party. “She’s had how many girlfriends in a row?”
But none of them ever work out — and girlfriend wouldn’t necessarily be the right word for it. King said that even “boyfriend” could be “too strong” when it comes to Kalinda and her relationships.
“The bottom line, is the whole year is about Alicia/Kalinda and what is going to happen with that. It seems like everything before that is a surrogacy,” King said. But, really, the answer as to why Kalinda is not getting another lady in the near future is this: “We can’t do better than Kelli Giddish.” Giddish’s character, Sophia Russo, had just started a relationship with Kalinda before the actress booked a full-time gig on Law & Order: SVU.
“I bang my head against a wall!” King said of losing Giddish. “Write letters to NBC!”
It’s true that Kalinda has had a handful of female lovers in the last two seasons, but none ever seem to reach relationship status. And while Kalinda is not necessarily the girlfriend type herself, it would be nice to see her have a companion that lasted longer than a few episodes. It just looks as if that companion will be male in the near future.
How do you feel about Kalinda’s romantic developments? Do you think she’s capable of a real relationship?
