Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (April 13, 2007)

IT’S ALL JUST SO HIGH SCHOOL. AND THAT’S A GOOD THING.

The second half of Season 5 of Degrassi: The Next Generation won’t be playing in the United States until mid-June, but it’s already begun airing up north, and according to a Canadian reader (thanks Norita!), the first two episodes “are centered around Alex’s ex-girlfriend Paige (Lauren Collins), but Alex (Deanna Casaluce) plays a significant part in both episodes. There was also a small introduction of Alex’s current girlfriend Carla (Genelle Williams) and in the middle of it all there’s also a confusing kiss between her and Paige.” Excellent!

Here’s a photo of Alex and Paige in the first new episode:

Listen up, Paige: Jackie Warner says lesbians (and bi women) can date casually, but I don’t know if she meant this casually. Plus, have you seen how well that’s working out for Jackie? Yeah, not so much.

AND IN THE REALLY SHORT, SHORT, SHORT DOCUMENTARY FILM CATEGORY …

We found this very funny short film created in 2001 called Lesbian Fashion? which includes comments on lesbian fashion from celebrities including Ellen DeGeneres, Lily Tomlin and ChloĆ« Sevigny, as well as random lesbians on the street. I love the question mark on the end of the title, Ellen’s comments at the beginning, and comedian Michele Balan’s joke about the resemblance of her fan base to Billy Ray Cyrus.

What, no mention of the cute straight girl sidekick fashion accessory? No modern lesbian leaves home without one!

MORE QUEER WOMEN THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A MODEL AT

It was lesbian and bisexual women run amok on this week’s episode of America’s Next Top Model. The current contestants were asked to do a photo shoot with a handful of previous contestants which included lesbian Kim Stolz, bisexual Michelle Deighton, and last season’s twins, Amanda and Michelle Babin, who’s also bisexual.

In the shoot, Brittany became a triplet:

Natasha posed with Michelle D. (who looks so much better now as a brunette!), spoofing her “flesh-eating bacteria” scare:

And Dionne re-created the infamous limo kiss between Kim and Sarah Rhodes:

Dionne started off visibly (and verbally) uncomfortable, clearly not happy with pretending to be a lesbian, but by the end of the limo shoot, she was giggling, “I’m actually enjoying this.”

Yeah, that’s how we get you, Dionne.

SHE SAID WHAT?

Comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer guests on our latest episode, the second one we shot at Dinah Shore:

My favorite Suzanne quote? “I kept the big ’80s hair well into the ’90s. Because once you find a style, stick with it – that’s what lesbians are taught.” Heh. She’s right, of course – just ask Michele Balan’s fans.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

South Park had a very special lesbian episode this week called “D-Yikes” which included a story line about patrons of a lesbian bar going to war against the Persians. Some parts were funny, some offensive, some just stupid. I could do a whole analysis of it, but frankly, I’m just not that interested – it’s not my kind of show. But you can watch the clip here and discuss it in this forum thread with other AfterEllen.com fans of the show.
