Gay Girl’s Goggles: “The Secret Circle” SnapCap (1.05)

When only four percent of scripted TV shows feature LGBT characters, what’s a gay girl to do? Why, strap on your gay goggles and watch TV along with us, of course! Our handy appraisal scale is better than any old letter grade. Other sites A+. We say, “What about our lezzy-lady feelings?”

“Destiny’s not easy to run from.” And, as we learn in this episode, neither are demons. The little worm is now in Melissa – and that’s not a metaphor. The over-possessive demon that we met last week via Heather has taken residence in Melissa and the other circle members take half the episode to even realize something’s wrong.

AFTERELLEN BAIT

Sorry, Chamberlake shippers – this week is all about Faylissa (is that the correct portmanteau?). Maybe Sidekick Melissa isn’t a lesbian, but the demon certainly seems to be when Mel slinks up to her BFF and purrs, “You’re my best friend, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”

I want to see all the things she would do.

Grams is also pretty hot this episode. She doesn’t even have to say Latin-y words to throw a knife across the room. And she kept her crystal with all the powers, so she has magic to rival the demon’s. Nothing is sexier than a powerful older woman. Just ask my ex-girlfriends.

FEELINGS, FEELINGS, FEELINGS!

They killed Kenny Nick, just as I started liking him. (No!) To be precise, Charles and Dawn drowned the demon. (Yes!) The disconnect is that Dawn says drowning the demon is the only way to save Nick – only Nick doesn’t get saved. (No!) The upside: a reason for Fay to comfort Melissa. (Yes!)

All of the dark demony things leave little time for us to really feel our feelings about what happened, so I expect next episode will be a Feeling Fest to rival the Michigan Women’s Festival.

MOMENTS OF FAYE

Even Faye has little time to be her usual witchy-with-a-b self this week. She does get to flash one of her signature Fayke grins at her mom when Diana tells her that their parents are dating.

All in all, Faye is rather sweet this episode. What is happening to this show?

THE FOREBODING

Demon-filled Nick heads for the boathouse to find Dawn because, as he tells her, she summoned him. Oops. The spell that Charles and Dawn did “under the blood moon” earlier in an effort to empower their crystal invoked Abaddon, who, in case you missed Eschatology that day, is the ruler of the Abyss, aka The Beast, in Revelation. Yikes. I’m not sure how two powerless witches are able to knock out and drown the Antichrist, but it’s good to know who to call if you get Left Behind.

The best development is that the Secret Circle’s no secret anymore to Grandma Jane. Whether the circle is still a circle without Nick remains to be seen.
