Kristin Chenoweth signs on to be one of the “Good Christian Bitches”

Actress, singer, adorable Ambien-induced tweeter Kristin Chenoweth could be coming back to TV. Rejoice, television, rejoice! According to TV Guide, the Tony and Emmy award-winning star has joined the pilot for the new ABC dramedy Good Christian Bitches. Dammit, now I’m going to have to start watching a show called Good Christian Bitches.

The pilot is based on a book of the same name which chronicles the vicious underbelly of supposedly God-fearing Dallas high society. The series stars Leslie Bibb (of Popular fame) as a former high school queen bee who comes back to Dallas after a scandalous divorce and seeks acceptance from her former social circle. Cheno will play the new leader of the pack, a woman who was tormented by Bibb’s character in high school. Can someone say Good Christian Catfight?

If this all sounds a bit like Desperate Housewives crossed with Mean Girls, but with more bibles, you’re not alone. But actually it’s soapy pedigree runs much deeper. Its writer is Robert Harling, the man behind the play and screenplay of Steel Magnolias and script for The First Wives Club. And then it’s being produced by Darren Star – you know, the Sex and the City guy. So clearly this duo knows a thing or two about bringing fabulous ladies to the screen.

And I haven’t even told you about the rest of the cast yet. Joining Bibb and Cheno will be Jennifer Aspen (she played Terri’s scheming sister on Glee), Miriam Shor (she played Ellen’s sister on Damages), Marisol Nichols (she played Jack Bauer’s boss on 24) and Annie Potts (she is Annie freaking Potts, respect). I’m most excited to see the Designing Women alum return to the small screen. The combined awesome of her and Chenoweth is almost too much to take.

Deadline.com describes Cheno’s character as a “classic Dallas housewife and villain motivated by her skewed sense of goodness” who “knows her Scripture and has no compunctions about breaking a few Commandments here and there.” The so-called Good Christian Bitches are awash in gossip, Botox and boob jobs. The role seems almost custom-made for Chenoweth who has her own Southern roots (she is an Oklahoma native) and Christian backgrounds (she was raised Southern Baptist, has recorded contemporary Christian music and now calls herself a “non-judgmental, liberal Christian”). Now if only she’ll also get to sing.

I’ve been an unabashed Cheno fan through her days on Pushing Daisies and her guest starring stint on Glee. Add to that her unabashed support of gay rights and you have quite possibly the perfect pocket-sized human being. Now, let’s see if that pilot gets picked up and then I can perhaps finally retire my Hire Cheno Now campaign. So, are you as excited to see Cheno back in action? Will she get you to tune into a show called Good Christian Bitches? Can I get an amen?
