“My Time Now” will give us some more insight into Nicki Minaj

If you’re sick of hearing about Young Money’s MC Nicki Minaj, you better brace yourself, because she’s just getting started. Even though her album, Pink Friday, doesn’t drop until next Monday, November 22, her whole album has been leaked online, boasting more crazy accents, cameos from everyone from Rihanna to Natasha Bedingfield, and a shining showcase of her unique take on the rap game.

MTV, never one to miss out on an opportunity to capitalize on the latest craze, will air a documentary, My Time Now, featuring the Harajuku Barbie herself, formally known as Onika Maraj. Executive Producer Dave Sirulnick promises that the documentary, which airs on Sunday, November 28 at 10:00 pm, will give us an “intimate” look into the life of the woman behind the hot pink wig. The trailer portrays Minaj as a businesswoman, artist, and of course the quirky, self-proclaimed “rap Hannah Montana.”

While a few of us at AfterEllen.com are avid Nicki Minaj fans, we’ve also noticed that her commitment and allegiance to the LGBT community has been mixed. On the one hand, the MC rhymes about signing boobs in her mixtapes, made an “It Gets Better” video, and appeared on the cover of Outmagazine; but on the other hand, she allows Eminem to use the gay slur “f—-t” (after which he says “no homo” — real cute) on her track “Roman’s Revenge.” While she herself doesn’t use the word, that she would promote its use on her album is troubling and insulting.

However, perhaps this documentary and Nicki’s continued public support for LGBT equality will win her back some points from, presumably, her most loyal fanbase.

Whether Nicki Minaj annoys the crap out of you or makes your heart race with excitement, it’s clear that the one part girly-girl, one part ultra-badass will be here to stay — at least until after the holidays. Let’s just hope that she’s in the limelight long enough to make a music video with Rihanna and sign my boobs.
