Buffy is back! OK, sure, not as another TV show. OK, not as another comic book. OK, not as another movie starring Kristy Swanson, Pee Wee Herman and that dude from the original 90210. No, she is back as a motion comic, the latest incarnation of everyone’s favorite vampire slayer.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 comic series has been turned into a motion comic. The first episode was released this week on iTunes and Amazon. The series will animate the first 19 comics in the Season 8 series. Then the entire motion comic series will then be available as a DVD in the fall.
A motion comic, just like it sounds, is like watching a moving comic book. The static original artwork from the comics is used, with animation added (blinking eyes, moving arms, shifting scenery, etc.). It takes a bit to get used to the new voiceovers. None of the original cast is used to voice the Scoobies. But it is still fun to hear those classic Joss Whedon zingers fly again.
The official motion comic series description reads:
The first “issue” is 10 minutes long. A free trailer for the series is available for download and previews more of what is to come. And, in case you were wondering, it looks like the motion comic will not shy away from the Buffy and Satsu relationship. Seeing this scene animated alone is reason enough to get on board.
We can also expect to see Willow and Kennedy goodness in the future, making the motion comic not only cool but super gay.
So, are you on board? Ready to watch Buffy save the world again, motion comic style?
