Here’s a quick but intriguing Q&A with Mary McDonnell, who plays President Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica (which you should all be watching for its fabulous cast of complicated, intelligent women). This is what Ms. McDonnell had to say about why she took the role:
I felt interested in the idea that there are a lot of women of my generation who have a great deal of savvy that’s untapped because we were right on the cusp of being prepared to do or be whatever we wanted, but we weren’t necessarily raised to think we could become president. There’s a lot of untapped resource in women of my generation, and I wanted the opportunity to explore it, to find out how savvy she might be, unbeknownst to herself. And that’s been a lot of fun.
I love Mary McDonnell. And President Roslin. And BSG. Jeez, I’m a sap.
