Two years ago, race car driver Danica Patrick was featured in a Honda Civic television ad. I just saw the ad this past Saturday. Why they would air a two-year-old car commercial is beyond me, but hey, I’m not complaining.
Danica has has never won a major auto race, but that hasn’t stopped her from attracting photographers everywhere she goes or cashing in on her good looks. She’s the Anna Kournikova of the racing circuit, if you will.
In the 2005 TV spot, Danica is speeding down the road in a red Honda Civic. A motorcycle cop falls in behind her with lights and sirens. Danica pulls it over.
As the helmet- and sunglasses-wearing officer approaches her car, Danica says to herself, “showtime,” and checks her lipstick in the rearview mirror. She opens her jacket a little wider to reveal her low-cut, lacy, pink top and some skin. She rolls down her window and turns to smile at the cop. Cut to the officer, who peels off the sunglasses. It’s a woman. A cute, blonde woman police officer. Hee.
It’s 2007 now. Ellen is hosting the Oscars. The Vice President’s granddaughter has two mommies. This spot needs to be re-cut with a shot added of the police officer walking away without giving Danica a ticket.
Some people might not consider that progress. I am not one of those people.
